It was Mountain Day on campus today!!!  It only took the students ONE night of singing to convince Dr. Meier to grant the highly sought after Mountain Day.

A new blogger!

Hello to all of our faithful followers!

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Patrick Gillette, and I am an Admissions Counselor in the Office of Admissions here at Elmira College.  I will be contributing here on the blog from time to time to bring you the latest news and inside scoop about what is happening here at EC.  If you want to know more about me click here to see my bio.

So it's that time of year again, along with the changing leaves and the delicious return of pumpkin lattes at Dunkin' Donuts the fall also brings with it extensive travel for the staff in the Office of Admissions.  We will be on the road from now until November; you will find us out on the road visiting high schools and working at college fairs, and talking a lot about Elmira College.  Hopefully a counselor will be visiting your school or a college fair in your area; but just because the counselors are out on the road, that doesn't mean that the office is closed.  We are open 6 days a week for individual visits; so schedule your visit to campus now or if you have already visited our "picture postcard perfect campus" leave a comment here and tell others about your experience.


Be sure to check back often and find out what is going on here on campus, and if you have any suggestions or recommendations about things you would like to hear about let me know!!!  I want to cover things that are interesting to you!

The Elmira College Term III Experience

This six-week term, beginning in April, offers students an opportunity to participate in a variety of special study options:

• Marine and Island Ecology in the Bahamas
• Off-Campus Courses in the U.S. and Abroad in such places as Paris, London, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Nepal
• Extraordinary on-campus course work in such areas as Jazz, American Mythologies, Investing Your Money, Mayan Culture, and The Golden Age of Television
• Internships
• Student Teaching
• Independent Study

These special study options are designed to enhance traditional coursework through innovative and adventurous approaches to learning. Term III provides students with the opportunity to take classes that fulfill graduation requirements and discover interests outside of their majors.

Honor Scholar Celebration Day

It was great seeing everyone at the Honor Scholar Celebration Day this past weekend! Congratulations to all the students! I hope everyone had a great time. It was a pleasure to meet all the accepted students and their parents.

EC to Host Sixth Annual Relay For Life Fundraiser

Elmira College’s Speidel Gymnasium will be the site of the sixth annual Relay For Life Fundraiser on March 19 and March 20, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Relay For Life is an overnight event designed to celebrate those who have survived cancer and honor those who have passed away, as well as to raise money for cancer awareness, research, and programs of the American Cancer Society.

Any individuals interested in joining or creating a Relay For Life team may visit www.relayforlife.org/ElmiraCollege.

Each year, one of the highlights of the fundraiser is the Elmira College “Bald Eagles” event. A special fundraiser at Relay For Life, exclusive to Elmira College, “Bald Eagles” is an opportunity for participants to auction off the right to cut or shave their hair to those in the audience. The event raises hundreds of dollars and adds a great deal of humor during the long hours of the fundraiser each year.

ECAC Championship… here we come!

The campus is buzzing with excitement since the Soaring Eagles Men’s Ice Hockey team defeated Hobart College 5-2 in the Semi-Finals of the ECAC Tournament this past weekend.

Although it was mid-term break last week, there still was a ton of fans in attendance to support the Purple and Gold. The men will play in the championship game against Neumann at home in the Murray Athletics Center on March 5 at 7 p.m.

EC Winter Visit Day

Come visit Elmira College for its Winter Visit Day on Monday, February 21!

You will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and discuss the values of liberal arts and sciences, attend a workshop on exploring majors, and hear from alumna who successfully went from undecided to career success.

Optional tours and interviews are also available. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. and the formal program starts at 10:00 a.m.
